TDL Profile: Ben Steinbauer, director of Winnebago Man
Thursday, September 9, 2010 at 8:02AM These are crazy times we're living in. Online fame can be gained overnight, and burn out just as quickly. One man has found fame online for reasons he would've never suspected, and in a format that didn't even exist when his now-famous antics occurred.
Such is the story of Jack Rebney, who you may know better as the angry Winnebago salesman from outtakes of his performance posted on YouTube. Director Ben Steinbauer was so compelled by Jack's notoriety, he decided to hunt down Rebney himself. The result is the fun and emotional documentary, "Winnebago Man."
I had a chance to talk to Steinbauer about the nature of online fame, the tech behind his film, and the post-script to Jack's new-newfound fame:
